Bertia convolutispora sp. nov. (Nitschkiaceae, ascomycetes) is describ
ed from submerged wood in streams in Australia and Brunei. Bertia conv
olutispora is characterized by superficial ascomata, clavate asci with
a very long pedicel and an apical ring and semi-helicoid ascospores.
The ascospore shape is thought to be an adaptation for attachment in t
he aquatic environment and this is further discussed.
