Abstract
Nine captive and 110 wild barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak) were observ ed in Nepal for a total of 147 hours to study their vocal repertoire. We describe 13 stereotypic vocalizations, Eliciting stimuli, behaviora l contexts, and effect on conspecifics are reported, and their adaptiv e significance discussed.
