Abstract
Results of two different theoretical models for the electronic structu re of C-60 targets were used in order to predict the population dynami cs of target and projectile levels, charge-state evolutions, projectil e electron emission, and the projectile deflection function in soft co llisions with 80 keV Ar8+ ions. The calculations were performed within a previously developed semiclassical overbarrier model for nondestruc tive, long-range charge exchange. The two target models, a local-densi ty-approximation-type, spherical-shell approach and our self-consisten t Dirac-Fock-Slater calculation, lead to charge states and deflection functions that agree at the 10% per cent level.
