The University of Nottingham has a long standing program in powder met allurgy and one of the largest research schools in the United Kingdom in this area. Components include support for powder and parts manufact urers, innovative methods of powder fabrication and studies of the rel ationships between microstructure and properties in the final product This profile highlights on-going research in the processing of powders involving self-propagating high temperature synthesis, sintering of d issimilar powders in prealloyed or elemental form to produce specialty alloys and intermetallics, the fracture and fatigue behavior of powde r processed steels, and interaction with producer and user industries to exploit new applications.
