Abstract
Combined liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is increasing ly used as a powerful technique in research and quality control. Among thermospray, FAB and electrospray, atmospheric pressure chemical ioni zation (APCI) is a powerful technique for high how-rate LC-MS. APCI ha s primarily been used with a quadrupole mass spectrometer, where only low mass resolution experiments are possible. In this article we descr ibe a newly designed APCI source for high-accelerating-voltage and hig h-resolution double focusing mass spectrometers. Detection in the pg r ange is possible.
