In the present experiment, we investigate the dynamics of a bidimensio
nal network of coupled water jets impinging from below on a water/air
interface. A transition is observed in the dynamics of the jets. Above
a critical flow rate value, the bumps at the vertical of the jets exh
ibit a monoperiodic oscillatory mode. We infer that this mode is the m
aterialization of helical instabilities in the submerged laminar jets.
When coupled together, the water jets exhibit monoperiodic collective
modes with spatial arrangements similar to those encountered in cryst
als. Diagrams of stability are constructed for the different modes and
considerations of symmetry are used to explain some features of the s
patial arrangements.
