Optical and soft X-ray (0.1-2.0 keV) data of a rare, EUV-selected Seyf
ert 1 galaxy, RE J2248 - 511, are presented. Fits to the soft X-ray sp
ectrum suggest that either (a) this AGN has been viewed through a 'hol
e' in the local Galactic column density (N-H < 10(20) Cm-2) Or (b) RE
J2248 - 511 exhibits a strong ultrasoft X-ray excess below similar to
0.25 keV. The EUV (0.09-0.21 keV) count rate inferred from new pointed
ROSAT PSPC data is twice that originally measured by the Wide Field C
amera during the ROSAT All-Sky Survey and, in scenario (b), suggests a
n ultrasoft X-ray excess which was substantially weaker during the All
-Sky Survey observation. The soft X-ray flux also weakens by 14 per ce
nt during the pointed PSPC observation (a time-scaIe of 16 h), but the
re are no significant spectral changes.
