Abstract
The authors have developed a new kind of tunable distributed Bragg ref lector (DBR) laser that has a tunable stair guide. This allows continu ous wavelength tuning when using single current injection. The laser w as fabricated by two-step selective area metal organic vapour phase ep itaxy. A continuous wavelength tuning range of 3.8nm at a wavelength o f 1.55 mu n was achieved.
