E. Schmidt et G. Schonmuth, FACTORS INFLUENCING THE FEED-INTAKE - AN EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY AT HOLSTEIN-FRIESIAN, JERSEY AND BLACK-PIED-DAIRY CATTLE, Archiv fur Tierzucht, 38(5), 1995, pp. 513-526
The factors influencing the feed intake were investigated. 16 Holstein
Friesian, 16 Jersey and 16 Black-Pied-Dairy cattle were fed with a to
tal mixed ration 2 weeks a.p. to the 34th week of lactation. There is
no different in the extension of the lack in energy supply p.p. despit
e of differences between the breeds in milk yield and feed intake. An
increase of the milk yield or of the content of protein and lactose is
connected with an increase of dry matter intake. The content of milkf
at is not influencing the feed intake. The average back fat thickness
is contrary to the feed intake. There is no relationship between back
fat thickness p.p. and feed intake. The mobilizing of body fat increas
ed the feed intake. Animals with an higher body weight have an higher
feed intake. There are positive relationships between the body measure
ments height, breastdepth, breastextent and bodylength and the feed in
take.
