Abstract
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt has established the undergro und laboratory 'UDO' for the investigation of environmental dose and d ose rate meters where the natural environmental ionising radiation is negligible. This laboratory is described. Examples are given of the de termination of an instrument's characteristics in UDO and their consid eration in the evaluation of measurements at low dose rates.
