Abstract
Purified lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Xanthomonas campestris pv. camp estris induced accumulation of transcript for beta-1,3-glucanase in tu rnip at concentrations of 1 mu g/ml. The lipid A-inner core structure was required for activity but the O-antigen had no role. We suggest th at release of LPS in planta triggers expression of at least some defen se-related genes.
