Swelling in the inguinal region of a woman may result from a number of
conditions, including inguinal hernia, tumor (lipoma, leiomyoma, sarc
oma), cyst, abscess, adenopathy, or hydrocele of the canal of Nuck. It
may be difficult to make a specific diagnosis based upon the history
and physical examination alone. This report describes a symptomatic wo
man in whom ultrasound was helpful in diagnosing a hydrocele of the ca
nal of Nuck, which. is the female counterpart of a spermatic cord hydr
ocele in the male. The ultrasound findings are described.
