Long-term stability studies on dried extracts of passion flower were c
arried out under isothermal conditions using a high performance liquid
chromatographic method. The analysis of the content variation for the
single flavonoids isovitexin, isovitexin-2''-glycoside, vitexin and a
pigenin-7-glycoside as well as for the total flavonoid content showed
the advantageous use of isovitexin-2''-glycoside as a stability indica
tor. The intermediate increase in vitexin, isovitexin and apigenin-7-g
lycoside can be attributed to the degradation of higher flavonoids. Th
e study presented here is helpful in the design and development of pas
sion flower preparations.
