Abstract
The relaxation kinetics on the first excited singlet state ((1)A(2)) o f SO2 have been studied from time-resolved emission spectra in the 300 -450 nm region. Two rovibronic levels belonging to the Clements E-band and the (1)A(2)(0,8,1) level, which are located above and below the o rigin of the B-1(1) state, respectively, were excited to investigate t he role of the B-1(1) state on the relaxation kinetics. Direct emissio ns from the Laser excited rovibronic levels in the (1)A(2) state and d irect intersystem crossing between the (1)A(2)(0,8,1) and B-3(1) state s were observed and revised relaxation kinetic schemes are proposed.
