We recall the data obtained since the discovery of the Paikon tectonic
window and clarify how they fit in with the regional tectonic context
. The Paikon is a multiple window whose upper unit shows the Pelagonia
n type. By comparison with the nearby Olympos window which occurs belo
w Pelagonian units and the intermediate Ambelakia units, Paikon's lowe
r unit may compare with the Olympos proper, whereas the overlying meta
basalts, repeated at two levels, may compare with the Ambelakia metaba
salts. Blue Schists metamorphism is known in both windows. The overlyi
ng Vardar units bring evidence for a Cretaceous olistostromic basin th
at received material derived from the Rhodopian synmetamorphic, Amphib
olite facies, thrust system which was forming at that time.
