Jl. Hartenberger, POSITION OF THE AILURAVINAE WITHIN THE EA RLY RADIATION THE EUROPEAN RODENTS, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Sciences de la terre et des planetes, 321(7), 1995, pp. 631-637
The recent discovery in Mongolia of the Alagomyidae, the most primitiv
e rodents known up to now, allows further discussion concerning the ph
ylogenetic relationships and systematic position of the Ailuravinae fr
om the Eocene of Europe. Two other species (Paucimys pourcyensis nov.
gen. and P. cordicingularis) from the Early Eocene of Europe, previous
ly attributed to the genus Paramys, can be situated in this group. The
conclusion emphasizes the diversity of the primitive rodents and the
difficulty of establishing their phylogenetic relationships.
