THE PLASMA PROGESTERONE CONCENTRATION POSTPARTUM AND SOME REPRODUCTIVE DATA IN THE SOW

In 50 sows the plasma progesterone concentration between 24 to 48 hour s after farrowing was measured. There was no relationship between the progesterone level post partum and the number of piglets born alive or dead, the number of piglets weaned, the length of the interval from w eaning to the first oestrus and the pregnancy rate of the first insemi nation. Thus a rather high(> 0.50 ng/ml) progesterone concentration po st partum does not affect reproduction.
