This work studied transient mass transfer from a vertical flat plate w
ith uniform concentration to a steady laminar flow. The flow is driven
essentially by the thermal buoyancy arising from temperature differen
ce between the plate and ambient fluid. By using an efficient solution
method, precise numerical results have been obtained over the whole t
ransient period including unsteady diffusion and steady convection. Al
l the results are presented for aqueous solutions of Pr = 7 and 1 less
than or equal to Le less than or equal to 500. Very accurate correlat
ion equation of mass transfer rate was developed for application conve
nience.
