This paper considers the phenomenon of optical bistability in an activ
e waveguide tunneling ring cavity. This phenomenon is due to the linea
r dependence of the refractive index on the radiation intensity. We an
alyze the influence of an amplifier on the conditions of bistability i
mplementation, methods of switching between states, and the character
of transient processes. It is demonstrated that the presence of an amp
lifier is favorable for an appreciable lowering of the required initia
l power with simultaneous increase of the operation speed.
