The authors report the observation of an infectious aneurysm in the ex
tracranial internal carotid artery by Salmonella typhimurium. From dat
as taken in medical reviews, they take stock of the clinical revelatio
ns, the radiological diagnosis means and above all the therapeutical c
onditions. It is a rare affection which needs to be diagnosed quickly
considering the short term prognosis. The difficulty lies in the exist
ence of misleading forms which may cause the diagnosis to be delayed.
The cervical echography in an interesting tool for the diagnosis but t
he arteriography remains the standard. The treatment must be a medico-
surgical one. The antibiotherapy quickly adapted to the antibiogram mu
st complete the surgical intervention. The standard technique is the r
esection of every infected tissues followed the restoration of arteria
l continuity with a veinous graft. The prognosis in this kind of disca
te can be fatal and despite new antibiotics and surgical techniques, b
oth the diagnosis and the treatment remain difficult.
