The reduction of niobium chloride with aluminium or zinc in the presen
ce of various ditertiary phosphines give biligate complexes of the typ
e [N-2,Cl-8(P P over arc)(2)], while sodium amalgam reduction of NbCl5
give monoligate complexes of the type [Nb2Cl8(P P over arc)(4)]. The
complex [Nb2Cl8(dppe)(4)] on further treatment with Mo(CO)(6) yielded
heteronuclear bimetallic complex [Nb2Cl8(P P over arc)(4)Mo-2(CO)(8)].
The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and N
MR spectral studies.
