Abstract
Laser hosts emitting in the 1.5 - 2 mu m range. This paper describes t he solid state laser materials doped with holmium, erbium and thulium leading to oscillation in the eye-safe 1.5 - 2 mu m range. The influen ce of the matrix on the optical properties is discussed and the better solid state laser materials are presented.
