Most of the new steroidal ammonium compounds designed include 5 alpha-
(HS-1163) (13) and 5 beta-(HS-1164) (14) epimers of 5-cyano-17 beta-di
methylamino-3 xi-pyrrolidinoandrostane dimethiodide, 3-hydroxy-17 beta
-dimethylamino-5-dimethylaminomethyl-5 beta-androstane dimethiodide (H
S-1165) (16) and its acetate ester (HS-1186) (17), 17 beta-dimethylami
no-5-dimethylaminomethyl-3 xi-pyrrolidino-5 alpha-androstane trimethio
dide (HS-1166) (15). None of these compounds is found to be any better
than the model chandonium iodide (1) in in vivo testing; the in vitro
results not being consistant with the in vitro findings.
