INVESTIGATIONS ON SOIL-EROSION AND SOLID MATTER TRANSPORT IN THE GUNZESRIEDER VALLEY OBERALLGAU

Some results from 6 years' research on soil erosion and landslides in the Allgauer Alps are reported. A brief introduction, which outlines t he various subjects of the research project, is followed by a descript ion of results concerning sediment yields from test plots, small catch ments and the entire 45.6 km(2) research area Gunzesrieder Tal. The so ilwater balance of typical field locations and the formation of surfac e runoff is described as well as the clay mineral compositions of soil s and substrata and their impact on soil mechanics.
