V. Douzdjian et Ta. Broughan, SCLEROSING ENCAPSULATING PERITONITIS - AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF LISTERIA PERITONITIS, Complications in surgery, 14(5), 1995, pp. 540-542
Listeria monocytogenes is an uncommon cause of peritonitis. Of the 34
cases of Listeria peritonitis reported, the majority have occurred in
cirrhotic patients and patients on chronic peritoneal dialysis. We rep
ort, for the first time, a case of sclerosing encapsulating peritoniti
s in a cirrhotic patient with Listeria peritonitis and an indwelling p
eritoneovenous shunt. Repeated operative interventions for removal of
the fibrinopurulent exudate encasing the small bowel were necessary.
