Abstract
A stable zirconia coating of 20-30 mu m thickness on a mullite substra te with a different alumina/silica ratio was obtained by reactive coat ing of zircon, It is shown that the Al2O3/SiO2 ratio of the mullite su bstrate drastically affects the morphology of the zirconia coating. Th e results are explained on the basis of the Al2O3-SiO2-ZrO2 phase equi libria.
