The aerobic oxidation of alkanes with acetaldehyde in the presence of
metalloporphyrins gives the corresponding alcohols and ketones highly
efficiently. Extremely high turnover numbers have been obtained for th
e oxidations of cyclohexane using cobalt, manganese, and ruthenium por
phyrin catalysts bearing meso-pentafluorophenyl groups.
