CATTLE-BREEDING IN MEZOHEGYES - THE TRADI TION OBLIGES .1.

History of the cattle breeding in Mezohegyes has been demonstrated, me ntioning the name of all the professionals who's work contributed to t he results obtained with the Simmenthaler breed in the past and with t he Holstein-Friesian breed at present. The reader can not only be acqu ainted with the most important steps, unforeseeable difficulties and s uccesses of Mezohegyes but also with that of the Hungarian cattle bree ding. It has been stressed that good results can only be obtained para llel with the improvement of genetic work and environmental conditions . It has been pointed out that the genetic development is connected to the genetic value of bulls-used for breeding. Selection carried out o n the basis of the own production of calved heifers resulted in a 6 to 7 times higher production increase than the selection carried out acc ording to the production of dams.
