We report near infrared spectroscopy of Nova Aquilae 1993 approximatel
y 18 and 108 days after maximum light. The early spectrum is a low exc
itation one in which only permitted lines are seen. Many of the N I li
nes observed can be formed only by recombination. This fact, coupled w
ith their prominence, indicates nitrogen is enriched, supporting the m
odels which posit enhanced CNO abundances in fast nova. The strongest
line in the later spectrum is He I 10830. Many of the lines in the ear
lier spectrum are still present in the later spectrum but are dramatic
ally weaker relative to the continuum. The unusual light curve of the
nova is discussed, as are the possible CNO abundances. (C) 1995 Americ
