Abstract
The inheritance and biochemical basis of resistance to Spilosoma obliq ua Walker were studied in four interspecific crosses in soybean. Data from the F-1, F-2 and F-3 generations indicated that resistance was co ntrolled by one incompletely dominant gene. Chemical analysis for phen olic acids (benzoic acid, coumaric acid, tannic acid, 3,4 dicaffeoyl-q uinic acid, caffeic acid, p-chloromercurobenzoic acid and chlorogen ac id) did not show any clearcut relationship between resistance to S. ob liqua and these phenolics.
