Pk. Bhattacharyya et Hh. Ram, INHERITANCE AND BIOCHEMICAL BASIS OF RESISTANCE TO SPILOSOMA-OBLIQUA WALKER IN INTERSPECIFIC CROSSES OF OYBEAN, Plant breeding, 114(4), 1995, pp. 366-368
The inheritance and biochemical basis of resistance to Spilosoma obliq
ua Walker were studied in four interspecific crosses in soybean. Data
from the F-1, F-2 and F-3 generations indicated that resistance was co
ntrolled by one incompletely dominant gene. Chemical analysis for phen
olic acids (benzoic acid, coumaric acid, tannic acid, 3,4 dicaffeoyl-q
uinic acid, caffeic acid, p-chloromercurobenzoic acid and chlorogen ac
id) did not show any clearcut relationship between resistance to S. ob
liqua and these phenolics.
