Sy. Gmyrin, INFLUENCE OF ROUGHNESS OF THE BOTTOM SURFACE OF A TESTPIECE ON THE PARAMETERS OF ULTRASOUND AND THE READINGS OF ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGES, Russian journal of nondestructive testing, 30(11), 1994, pp. 851-863
The influence of a roughness layer covering the bottom surface of a te
stpiece on the parameters of the reflected ultrasonic wave and the rea
dings of ultrasonic thickness gauges is analyzed. The significant role
of interference phenomena and the resulting oscillatory behavior of t
he wave parameters as a function of the parameters of the roughness la
yer are demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. The extents to
which the wave is influenced by roughness layers are compared for the
bottom and contact surfaces of a testpiece.
