Va. Bolshakov et Aa. Svitoch, CORRELATION OF LOESS-SOIL SECTIONS IN NORTHERN BULGARIA FROM MAGNETICAND PALEOMAGNETIC DATA, Stratigraphy and geological correlation, 3(5), 1995, pp. 521-529
Three loess-soil sections in northern Bulgaria were magnetically and p
aleoma, onetically studied. Up to six horizons of buried soils and loes
ses were identified in the exposures, and magnetic data were shown to
be useful for correlation of the studied sections (the values of magne
tic susceptibility and the Koenigsberger factor). The obtained magneti
c and paleomagnetic information allowed the conclusion that the lowerm
ost loess-soil horizons are coeval. The interpretation of paleomagneti
c data implied that loess formation in northern Bulgaria started in th
e Eopleistocene and not in the Pleistocene, as is generally accepted.
