G. Laurell et al., EFFECT OF CISPLATIN ADMINISTRATION ON THE ELECTROCHEMICAL COMPOSITIONOF ENDOLYMPH IN THE RAT COCHLEA, Hearing research, 87(1-2), 1995, pp. 16-20
The effect of cisplatin on the electrochemical composition of the coch
lear endolymph was studied in Long-Evens rats three days after a singl
e intraperitoneal injection (8 mg/kg b.w.). A dose 2/3 of LD50 induced
a decrease of the endolymphatic concentration of potassium whereas th
e endocochlear potential was unaffected. The discrepancy between these
two findings indicated that cisplatin did not alter the mechanisms in
volved in the genesis of the endocochlear potential but modified the p
assive K transport into endolymph.
