Abstract
PVC tubes, from the dialysis water distribution system of a 14 and a 7 year old plant, were analysed by scanner electron microscopy (SEM) an d X-ray microanalysis (EDAX). Results showed that the leaching of mate rial occurs depending on time of use. The phenomenon does not modify t he chemical composition of the material. Results suggest that PVC alte rations, induced by time, could support bacterial proliferation thus r educing the quality of dialysate.
