J. Pauwels et al., IMPROVEMENTS IN THE PREPARATION AND AREAL CHARACTERIZATION OF B-10 AND (LIF)-LI-6 REFERENCE DEPOSITS, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 362(1), 1995, pp. 104-111
The preparation and characterisation of a new series of B-10 and (LiF)
-Li-6 reference deposits for accurate neutron fluence rate measurement
s are described and compared to those of an earlier campaign. Importan
t improvements have been made by designing and building a new planetar
y rotating substrate holder and by using an optimized vacuum depositio
n set-up. Both deposition homogeneity and edge sharpness were signific
antly improved. However, a hitherto unrecognized source of border effe
ct, i.e. mask expansion during the vacuum deposition process, was obse
rved and discussed.
