The 1-vanado-11-molybdophosphoric acid and its related alkaline salts
are very efficient in the oxydehydrogenation of isobutyric acid into m
ethacrylic acid. However, their stereospecific synthesis and their ide
ntification are still in discussion. This prompted us to work out a se
lective method of synthesis of the acid parent and its salts as weil a
s appropriate methods for their identification. The characterization h
ave been carried out by IR spectroscopy and XRD hi the solid state, an
d by protometric titrations, polarography, UV spectroscopy and P-31 an
d V-51 NMR in solution.
