In a search for reliable gene markers for population studies of scallo
p (Mizuhopecten yessoensis), seven highly polymorphic markers were sel
ected from more than 30 proteins examined: glucose-6-phosphate isomera
se, aspartate aminotransferase, esterase D, glutathione reductase, oct
opine dehydrogenase, phosphoglucomutase, and a water-soluble muscle pr
otein. AH these proteins were analyzed by electrophoresis in starch ge
l using the same buffer system. Their activity was high even after pro
longed storage of frozen tissue samples (as tissue, the adductor muscl
e was used). Good allozyme separation and repeatability of results all
owed us to avoid errors in genotype scoring. Identification of allozym
e phenotypes of these proteins, detected in scallop by different autho
rs, was conducted.
