Radiative efficiencies are reported for 10, 15, 20 and 25 kW, Phi = 0.
6 and 0.8, natural gas/air flames burned with an industrial fuel/air n
ozzle and confined in a quartz radiant heating tube. The radiativee ef
ficiencies of corresponding unconfined flames are also reported. Radia
tive efficiencies of the confined flame/tube combination are at least
three times higher than those of the unconfined flames suggesting stro
ng participation by the confining quartz tube in the heat transfer pro
cess.
