E. Kremling et Ch. Hartwig, SALMONELLA INFECTION OF THE KNEE-JOINT IN HIGH DOSAGE CORTICOSTEROID-THERAPY DUE TO MULTICENTRIC RETICULOHISTIOCYTOSIS, Aktuelle Rheumatologie, 20(4), 1995, pp. 145-148
The authors present the case of a female 67-year-old patient suffering
from multicentric reticulohistiocytosis concomitant with an adenocarc
inoma in the area of the lower part of the pelvis. Under immunosuppres
sive corticosteroid therapy the patient had contracted salmonella arth
ritis of the right knee joint. This infection was completely cured aft
er local treatment and systemic administration of appropriate antibiot
ics. Multicentric retriculohistiocytosis is associated with a malignom
a in 30 per cent of cases. Salmonella arthritis can occur as a severe
complication of immunosuppressive therapy.
