Abstract
A new type of columnar grain structure which was found in sputtered co balt films was investigated by electron microscopic observations and X -ray analysis. The magnetic analysis revealed that the degree of c-axi s alignment increases with increasing film thickness. The formation of a new type of columnar grain structure is discussed from the viewpoin t of the crystallographic contribution.
