J. Fassbender et al., IDENTIFICATION OF MAGNETOCRYSTALLINE AND MAGNETOELASTIC ANISOTROPY CONTRIBUTIONS IN ULTRATHIN EPITAXIAL CO(11O) FILMS, Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials, 148(1-2), 1995, pp. 156-157
Magnetic anisotropies of MBE-grown fee Co(110) films with thicknesses
between 8 and 110 Angstrom on Cu(110) single-crystal substrates have b
een determined by Brillouin light scattering and have been correlated
with structural properties. Three regimes of film growth and associate
d anisotropy behavior are identified: coherent growth, in-plane anisot
ropic and isotropic strain relaxation. The magnetocrystalline bulk ani
sotropy contribution with easy axes along the in-plane [111] direction
is found to be largely suppressed for film thicknesses smaller than (
50 +/- 10) Angstrom.
