Abstract
The interlayer coupling strength J(i) is investigated as a function of the position index i of the Cu-layers in glass/Fe 60 Angstrom/[Co 10 Angstrom/Cu 10 Angstrom] X N multilayers. The J(i)'s are determined by the Atomic Layer Method, in which the magnetic portion of the stack i s decomposed into thin mutually coupled plane-parallel sheets with uni form magnetization. The J(i)'s are determined by fitting the experimen tal saturation fields H-s for stacks with N varying from 1 to 35. J(i) is a monotonic function of i, at which \J(i)\ is vanishing small for the Cu-layer adjacent to the Fe and J(i) approaches - 0.3 erg/cm(2) at a large distance from the substrate.
