Mj. Arias et al., INFLUENCE OF THE PREPARATION METHOD OF SOLID DISPERSIONS ON THEIR DISSOLUTION RATE - STUDY OF TRIAMTERENE-D-MANNITOL SYSTEM, International journal of pharmaceutics, 123(1), 1995, pp. 25-31
In this paper, we illustrate the usefulness of spray-drying as a resou
rceful procedure for preparing solid dispersions. The study in the sol
id state of the triamterene-D-mannitol system from 10 to 40% w/w drug
included scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (DRX) a
nd differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The main finding arising f
rom the former studies was that a strong drug-carrier interaction exis
ted in the systems prepared by spray-drying. In contrast, solid disper
sions prepared by the melting carrier method showed only weak interact
ions between triamterene and D-mannitol. This observation helps to exp
lain the much better dissolution rates obtained for the spray-dried ou
tputs.
