S. Karaca et al., TRACHEAL RUPTURE DURING TRANSHIATAL ESOPHAGECTOMY AND ANESTHETIC PROBLEMS - A CASE-REPORT, Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, 36(3), 1995, pp. 287-288
Tracheal rupture is a rare but potentially serious complication of tra
nshiatal esophagectomy (THE). In this situation, ventilation of the pa
tient can be extremely difficult, even impossible, due to excessive ga
s leakage from tracheal tear. In this case report, we present such a p
atient in whom emergency thoracotomy and patching of the trachea were
performed in order to maintain ventilation and oxygenation.
