A spectroscopic method for evaluation of stability of the diluted O/W
emulsions has been proposed as a tool for testing emulsifiable pestici
de formulations at field conditions. Using xylene as an oil phase, the
re has been tested stability of the emulsions, containing 0,2 or 2% of
the oil phase for 14 commercial emulsifiers. It has been found that e
mulsifiers forming stable concentrated emulsions are also effective as
stabilizers of the diluted emulsions. That condition is requisite but
not sufficient, because the reverse relation is not always true. No s
imple relation has been found between such parameters as water index,
phenol index or emulsion inversion point and ability of the emulsifier
to stabilize diluted emulsions.
