Abstract
A comprehensive study has been conducted on archaeological monuments ( burial mounds) of the Middle Bronze Age and Late Sarmatian in the Ilov lya River valley. The stratigraphic and morphological features of the burial mound embankments (fills), those of the modern and buried soils , and the magnetic susceptibility of the soils are studied. The biomas s of physiologically active microorganisms and the rate of mineralizat ion of the organic matter are determined for the first time.
