A model based on a logarithmic pore size distribution with the propert
ies of a Wiener random process, depending on the particle-size composi
tion and density of the soil, is presented. Logarithmic distribution f
unctions of the porosity distribution and the bulk infiltration coeffi
cient are derived. The fractal dimension of the pore space is calculat
ed from the variation in water retentivity or from the particle-size c
omposition of the soil. A power-law equation relating the infiltration
coefficient to the porosity of the soil is also derived.
