The spatial dynamics of ring dark solitary waves is studied numericall
y in order to determine the appropriate initial conditions for an effe
ctive control of their transverse velocity. We show that the evolution
of the solitary-wave parameters radius, ring width and contrast can b
e controlled by increasing the ring radius, by an initial phase modula
tion of the background beam, and as a result of a nonlinear interactio
n with a second dark formation.
