Bangladesh has both a low resource base and a very low land-man ratio.
The chemical pollution scenario is not well known and analytical capa
bilities are limited. Application of regulatory standards is weak and,
in some cases, non-existent. Preliminary findings on toxins and conta
minants in food and the environment are reported. Coordinated undertak
ings to evaluate environmental risks due to chemical pollutants are ne
eded so that measures for alleviating them can be found.
