A new heterocyclic polymer, polyoxazolidone, with a NLO chromophore co
valently incorporated for second-order nonlinear optical studies, has
been developed. The material exhibited excellent processibility and go
od stability. Optical quality films were obtained, efficiently poled,
and cured. This un-cross-linked polymer showed better thermal stabilit
y than a crosslinked polyurethane with the same NLO chromophore. A d(3
3) coefficient of 85 pm/V at the 1.06 mu m fundamental wavelength was
obtained.
